Prime Video has renewed Carrie for a second season, taking Mike Flanagan’s Stephen King adaptation beyond its first eight episodes. The announcement doesn’t include a release date for the next season.
Flanagan will return as showrunner and executive producer, alongside King as executive producer, TVLine reports. The renewal follows the first season’s October 7 debut, when Prime Video released all eight episodes together.
Where will Carrie’s story go next?
Flanagan said he had imagined a story extending beyond the prom from the beginning, and thanked King for supporting that continuation. The announcement doesn’t detail the next season’s plot or say when production will begin.
The series adapts King’s 1974 novel, with Summer H. Howell playing Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as her mother, Margaret. After her father dies, Carrie enters public high school, faces a viral bullying scandal and begins discovering her telekinetic powers.
The first Carrie trailer introduced that contemporary setting, bringing the bullying into the social-media era.
