What does the Carrie TV series trailer reveal?
The first Carrie trailer teases Summer H. Howell’s telekinetic powers, relentless bullying, and a newly reworked version of the story’s infamous prom massacre.
Prime Video unveiled the footage during the show’s San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel. According to ScreenRant’s report from the Carrie panel, the streamer also announced that the adaptation will run for eight episodes.
The footage puts Howell at the centre of a recognisable but noticeably updated nightmare. This Carrie is a sheltered teenager whose father’s sudden death sends her into public school, where familiar high-school cruelty is amplified by social media. Apparently prom night needed an algorithm.
Samantha Sloyan plays Carrie’s fiercely protective mother, Margaret White. The ensemble also includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Dejardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.
How is Mike Flanagan’s Carrie different?
Mike Flanagan’s Carrie keeps the novel’s essential ingredients but substantially reimagines Carrie White, Margaret White, and the world surrounding them.
Flanagan told ScreenRant that he approached the adaptation by breaking Stephen King’s story into its essential elements and building something new from them, much as he did with The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher. He said this Carrie is different from the character in both the book and earlier films, while his Margaret is also a major departure from King’s original conception.
The clearest update is the role of social media in Carrie’s abuse. King’s 1974 debut novel and Brian De Palma’s landmark 1976 film placed her isolation, her abusive religious home, and her classmates’ cruelty at the heart of the tragedy. The series moves those pressures into a contemporary public-school setting where humiliation can follow a teenager beyond the corridor.
Eight episodes also give Flanagan more room to develop the characters around Carrie than a feature film allows. Whether the series uses that space well remains to be seen, but his past television work has repeatedly favoured psychological horror, family damage, and patient character development. Carrie fits that skill set with almost suspicious neatness.
Flanagan writes, produces, and serves as showrunner, while directing four of the eight episodes. Stephen King is an executive producer. This is Flanagan’s fourth King adaptation after Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, but his first built as an episodic television series.
When is Carrie coming to Prime Video?
Prime Video announced that all eight episodes of Carrie will be released together on October 7, 2026.
The simultaneous drop means viewers can watch the complete story without waiting for a weekly episode. Prime Video presented that schedule at San Diego Comic-Con alongside the trailer, and the exact release details currently rest on the streamer’s announcement as reported from the panel.
Carrie is also the first scripted television-series adaptation of King’s novel, following the 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek and the 2013 remake led by Chloë Grace Moretz. Flanagan is therefore working with more screen time than either film had, while deliberately moving away from simply recreating their versions of Carrie and Margaret.
The trailer suggests that the prom, the powers, and the cruelty remain firmly in place. The promising part is Flanagan’s willingness to rebuild the characters around them — because another shot-for-shot trip to this particular dance would be a waste of eight episodes.
