Prime Video has released a new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3, and it saves its biggest moment for the final shot: Sauron putting on the One Ring. IGN reports that the footage also gives a closer look at the war to stop him, with the season arriving on 11 November.
The trailer leans on scale. It shows more of the Nazgnagôl, Sauron’s ring-servants, along with a Mûmakil and fell beasts, and one sequence has a Nazgnagôl overpowering Galadriel in a fight. Over that footage, Sauron says, “I see the path to victory so certain,” before declaring he’ll take his place as a conqueror, a sorcerer and a king. The trailer also appears to show him invading Galadriel’s dreams, with Sauron lying in bed next to her.
As quoted by Empire, Prime Video’s official synopsis fits that picture. It describes Sauron in his legendary armoured form, enslaving the Nazgnagôl and spreading destruction through deception and might. The One Ring is the logical next step, since it would let him bind the peoples of Middle-earth to his will. IGN adds that Season 3 picks up after Celebrimbor’s death in the Season 2 finale, with Sauron still chasing the Ring.
The trailer also seems to confirm a Sauron-versus-Balrog clash, which appears as a fiery battle. Amazon lists Simon Pegg as the voice of the Balrog, and we’ve already looked at the Comic-Con footage in which Sauron blocks the Balrog with Morgoth’s Iron Crown. The new trailer doesn’t explain where the fight happens or how it ends.
Amazon says Season 3 takes place several years after Season 2, with Middle-earth at war to stop Sauron’s plans for domination. IGN says the trailer suggests the Dark Lord will come out on top, at least for now. For the schedule, the season starts with four episodes on 11 November, and India TV News reports that episodes 305 and 306 follow on 18 November, with the final two on 25 November. Our Season 3 release date post covers the rollout for UAE viewers.
If you missed the earlier footage, the Comic-Con teaser sets up the war and the time jump.
