Chris Pratt says Marvel’s plan to bring back Star-Lord has moved beyond talk. In an appearance on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, reported by Gizmodo with a link to The Playlist’s write-up, the actor said he has discussed the comeback with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and executive Louis D’Esposito, and that “hard action” has followed those talks.
The promise Pratt refers to comes from the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. As Geek Culture notes, that 2023 film closed with a line of text saying Star-Lord would return. It was Pratt’s sixth outing as Peter Quill, and the character hasn’t appeared in the MCU since. Pratt told the podcast he and the studio have had “ongoing conversations” about delivering on it, and that “you’ll see Star-Lord again”. He added that he isn’t at liberty to say when, because “he’s not going anywhere”.
That’s all he gave away. Pratt didn’t name a film or a series, and he didn’t describe what the “hard action” involves. IGN reports that he isn’t on the confirmed cast list for Avengers: Doomsday, and that he hasn’t featured much in the rumour mill around it either. IGN suggests Avengers: Secret Wars is a more plausible home, though fans will probably wait until next year for an answer. Doomsday is scheduled for 18 December 2026, per Disney+’s own listing, so the cast picture should be clearer soon.
The comments follow a more speculative moment earlier this year. According to Variety, Pratt said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he had pitched Feige an idea for the character and was keen to contribute to Marvel’s “next 10 years of storytelling”. The new remarks go a step further, since he’s now describing action rather than a pitch.
The route back is open, because James Gunn, who directed all three Guardians films, has said he has no plans for another one and now runs DC Studios. IGN lists a few possible vehicles: a Star-Lord TV series, a solo film, or a Guardians of the Galaxy 4 with a new director and a fresh crew. None of those is confirmed by Marvel, and we haven’t seen the studio comment on Pratt’s remarks.
Is Star-Lord in Avengers: Doomsday?
Nothing official says so. IGN notes that Pratt isn’t on the confirmed cast list and hasn’t been linked to the film in the main rumours, and Pratt himself didn’t mention the film.
When will Star-Lord return to the MCU?
Pratt didn’t say. He told Bingeworthy he can’t discuss timing, and he didn’t name a project, so there’s no release window to plan around yet.
Is there a Guardians of the Galaxy 4 in the works?
Marvel hasn’t announced one. IGN says Gunn has no plans to make another Guardians film while he leads DC Studios, though the site speculates a new director could take the franchise forward.
