Warner Bros. has posted the first trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s Remain, the supernatural romance that pairs Jake Gyllenhaal with Phoebe Dynevor and is aimed at Valentine’s Day 2027.
Tanya Fedak, writing for Variety on 8 September 2026, says the romantic drama’s first trailer shows Gyllenhaal and Dynevor in an unsettling relationship. The official YouTube upload from Warner Bros. is titled Remain | Official Teaser.
Remain trailer: Tate, Wren, and a tone shift
Variety says the clip opens on the happiest moments of a young couple, Wren (Dynevor) and Tate (Gyllenhaal), then flips when Wren asks, “Why can’t we be together, Tate?” and he answers, “I think you know.” In the moments that follow, Wren seems about to slam her head against a bathroom wall before disappearing in front of Tate.
The official teaser copy names Gyllenhaal’s character Tate Gordon — a reclusive architect who moves to a small coastal town, meets an alluring young woman, and is pulled into a deadly mystery. Warner Bros. frames the film as a collaboration between Shyamalan and bestselling novelist Nicholas Sparks: Shyamalan directs from his own screenplay, from a story by Shyamalan and Sparks. Variety notes that Sparks also published a novel of the same name drawn from that shared idea.
Valentine’s Day theatres — moved off Halloween
Variety says Remain is due in theatres on Valentine’s Day, after an earlier Halloween 2026 plan. The official Warner Bros. teaser is more precise: North America on 5 February 2027, and internationally beginning 3 February 2027.
Deadline reported in February that Warner Bros. moved the film from 23 October 2026 to 5 February 2027 to chase the Valentine’s corridor, citing strong test scores. Variety’s trailer piece also records Shyamalan calling Remain his highest-testing film.
Producers are Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan through Blinding Edge Pictures, with Marc Bienstock and Sparks’ producing partner, Theresa Park, as executive producers. Variety lists Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, Jay O. Sanders, Tracy Ifeachor, Hannah James, Caleb Ruminer, Kieran Mulcare and Maria Dizzia in the cast alongside the leads. The teaser also credits cinematographer Adolpho Veloso and composer James Newton Howard.
