The Asa Germann X-Men casting is confirmed: Marvel has cast the actor as Warren Worthington III, better known as Angel, in its upcoming film. The Gen V and Scream 7 actor joins a young ensemble led by Sadie Sink, Kit Connor and Samara Weaving.

Germann had previously auditioned to play Cyclops, a role that went to Connor. The Hollywood Reporter says Marvel was impressed enough with his audition to find another place for him in the film. IGN reported the casting, while The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.

Asa Germann X-Men casting: Angel joins the MCU reboot

At 28, Germann joins Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Maya Boyd as Storm, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier. Adam Driver is playing the villain Mister Sinister.

The film is directed by Jake Schreier, who previously made Thunderbolts*, with a script being developed by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. Marvel Studios has not announced the complete cast, and The Hollywood Reporter says the studio did not comment on Germann’s casting.

Who is Angel in Marvel’s X-Men?

Angel is one of the original X-Men from the comics, first appearing in The X-Men #1 in 1963. Warren Worthington III is a wealthy heir who can fly using a pair of wings. He later becomes Archangel, with metallic wings, after being transformed by Apocalypse.

The character has appeared in two previous live-action X-Men films. Ben Foster played Warren in X-Men: The Last Stand, while Ben Hardy played a younger version in X-Men: Apocalypse.

The Asa Germann X-Men casting adds another superhero role to his recent work. He played Sam Riordan in Gen V and also appeared in Scream 7 earlier this year.

Marvel’s X-Men movie is scheduled to open in cinemas on 5 May 2028. That puts Angel’s next live-action flight a little way off, although the casting process is moving faster than the film itself.

The new film follows Marvel’s first X-Men casting announcements at D23, and the MCU’s X-Men logo has already been revealed. The director has also discussed the comic-book influences behind the reboot.
