Jake Schreier has named the comic book runs behind the MCU’s X-Men movie: the classic Chris Claremont era and Jonathan Hickman’s recent work. In an interview with Good Morning America after Marvel’s D23 cast reveal, IGN reports the director said he and studio boss Kevin Feige are looking for the stories the previous films never got to.

“The whole Chris Claremont run, the newer Jonathan Hickman stuff,” Schreier said of the comics he and Feige have been digging through. “There are so many stories that are still untold, to honor and to reach into, and then to meet this cast and try to do something new, I think you always want to see something that reveres where it came from and then is still taking a new spin on where we want to go.”

The D23 panel confirmed Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, Christopher Abbott as Professor X and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, joining the previously announced Kit Connor (Cyclops), Samara Weaving (Emma Frost) and Sadie Sink (Jean Grey). The full X-Men movie cast reveal landed on Friday night.
Connor, who grew up on the original Fox films, echoed the “something new” line. “It feels like we are doing a really different version, a different take, which is really exciting.”
