A Chinese modder has built a custom 3-in-1 console that combines a PlayStation 5, an Xbox Series X, and a Nintendo Switch into a single case. The project, dubbed the ‘Ningtendo PXbox 5’ by its creator Xiao Ningzi, uses a shared power supply and cooling system to solve common space and wiring issues for gamers who own all three major platforms.
How the 3-in-1 console works
To create the unique build, Xiao Ningzi (XNZ) dismantled all three consoles, keeping only their motherboards. The main challenge was combining the bulky power and cooling components. Inspired by the design of Apple’s Mac Pro, she engineered a custom central cooling block made of aluminium and copper to serve all three motherboards.
A single 250W PC power supply runs the entire system, which XNZ notes is sufficient as long as only one console is active at a time. A large button on top of the case switches between the systems, indicated by a coloured light—blue for PS5, green for Xbox, and red for Switch. The design even includes a bespoke, removable dock for the Nintendo Switch, preserving its handheld functionality.
A playful end to the console war
XNZ explained that the project started as a way to solve a personal inconvenience. Having three separate systems required too much space and created a mess of cables. While the final 3-in-1 console is still large, it’s a significant improvement. “I’m quite satisfied with the final result,” XNZ said. “It retains the full functionality of all three consoles, while reducing the size and simplifying the wiring.”
She also shared a playful message about the project’s symbolism. “I hope it can keep working for a long time, serving as a reminder to those who keep making exclusive games – stop what you’re doing. Quit fighting! Stop the console war!”
