Meta is reportedly preparing camera-free smart glasses, internally codenamed Luna, for a possible October launch. The report comes from The Information, as reported by Reuters and Engadget, and Meta has not confirmed the device.
The company could show Luna at Meta Connect on September 23–24, with shipments targeted for October. The reported camera-free design would let Meta keep the hands-free AI features of its current glasses without making people nearby wonder whether they are being recorded.

Camera-free smart glasses could keep Meta AI, lose the camera
Luna is reported to have six built-in microphones, speakers aimed towards the user’s ears and a side button for activating Meta AI. The glasses may also work with Muse, Meta’s consumer AI agent. Engadget reports two planned styles, Clubmaster and Burbank, with slimmer temples designed to look more like ordinary eyewear.
The reported feature list would make Luna an audio-and-AI wearable rather than a camera accessory. That distinction helps with privacy, although microphones still mean the device isn’t entirely passive in public spaces.
Why Meta is reportedly removing the camera
Meta’s current Ray-Ban smart glasses have faced criticism over covert recording and the possibility of tampering with their recording indicator. Meta has issued updates addressing ways users could record while hiding or covering the LED, but the privacy concerns have continued.
A camera-free model would remove the most obvious source of that criticism. Meta has not said whether Luna will launch in the UAE, how much it will cost or whether the reported October shipment target applies worldwide.
Meta’s existing smart glasses privacy update already covers one of the recording concerns around its camera-equipped models. Its newer AI glasses range is also expanding beyond the original Ray-Ban partnership. The company will need to confirm the product, regions and final specifications before Luna can be treated as more than a reported plan.
