Warning! Spoilers for Lanterns follow

HBO’s Lanterns midseason trailer sets up the final three episodes of the DC series, with John Stewart investigating Hal Jordan’s apparent death while Sinestro, Guy Gardner and the mystery around Noah Macon move into the foreground. The eight-episode first season now has three episodes left, beginning with Episode 6 on September 20.

Lanterns midseason trailer points to Hal Jordan’s fate

The trailer picks up after the events of Episode 5, which left both Lanterns without the green ring: Stewart gave his up, while Jordan had it taken from him. IGN reports that the new footage shows Stewart behind bars, where Guy Gardner tells him, “I can’t help you solve this murder. It’s bad optics.” Nathan Fillion’s Gardner has been largely absent from the season so far, so his arrival adds another Lantern to an already awkward investigation.

The footage also brings Sinestro back into the mystery. “Hal didn’t have to die in vain… I know a way,” he says, leaving the trailer to suggest a possible plan around Jordan’s fate without confirming whether the veteran Lantern is actually dead. The show has spent its opening run presenting a murder mystery in rural Nebraska; the final episodes appear ready to push that case into stranger territory.

Three episodes to close the first season

Noah Macon’s story also returns to the centre of the trailer. The character, whose birth was previously tied to the Manhunter mystery, appears older and playing high-school football in the later footage. That jump gives the final stretch a wider timeline and raises another question about how closely Noah is connected to the events in Rushville.

ComingSoon reports that Episode 6 premieres on HBO Max on September 20, with the first season scheduled to conclude on October 4. The trailer does not confirm a second season, but it does make the first feel as if it has reached one ending before starting another. HBO has not announced a UAE streaming change; local viewers can check where to watch Lanterns in the UAE, while earlier coverage has tracked the Lanterns Episode 3 teaser and the show’s HBO Max premiere audience.
