James Gunn has told DCU fans to stop believing the latest wave of gossip, and he started with the claim that Milly Alcock has been fired as Supergirl. In a Threads reply on 16 October, the DC Studios co-chairman said three rumours “couldn’t be more false”, and added that Peter Safran would see his first director’s cut of Man of Tomorrow that day. IGN first reported the exchange.
What Gunn denied
A fan asked Gunn about three claims, and they were that Matt Reeves is off The Batman Part II, that Alcock was fired from Supergirl, and that a Man of Tomorrow test screening went badly over a dark ending that killed off a beloved DC hero. Gunn replied with “Oh brother” and then dismissed all three. According to Dark Horizons, he said he was mostly done shooting down rumours as there are so many and he isn’t on Threads much.
The Alcock rumour took off after fans noticed Supergirl content had disappeared from her Instagram. An X account posted about the clean-up on 15 October.
IGN notes the wipe wasn’t total, as some Supergirl photos and Reels are still public. Fans read it against the backdrop of the solo film’s struggles in cinemas. Alcock hasn’t commented, but the casting picture hasn’t changed: she debuted as Kara in 2025’s Superman, led Supergirl in June, and is due back in Man of Tomorrow. We covered Supergirl’s confirmed role in the sequel earlier.
The Man of Tomorrow cut
The test-screening claim also fell apart on timing. Gunn said Safran will “obviously” be the first person to see any version of the film, “and that’s a month early!”, so nobody else could have watched it and reported back. Comic Basics reports that principal photography wrapped on 26 August after 93 days of shooting, and that Gunn confirmed earlier this month that the assembly cut was complete.
Gunn’s denials come as DCU fans are nervous. IGN says Superman launched the live-action slate strongly, Supergirl slowed that momentum, and Lanterns won back some goodwill. Online doubts remain about Clayface and Man of Tomorrow. Man of Tomorrow opens in July 2027, and the cast keeps growing, most recently with Andre Royo in a mystery role.

No. Gunn said on Threads that the claim “couldn’t be more false”, and IGN reports she is set to return as Kara in Man of Tomorrow. Alcock hasn’t commented on her Instagram changes.
Has Man of Tomorrow had a test screening?
No. Gunn said the report “couldn’t be more false” and that Peter Safran would be the first person to see the film, at a director’s cut screening on 16 October, a month earlier than planned.
When does Man of Tomorrow come out?
IGN reports the film premieres in July 2027. We haven’t seen a UAE-specific date yet.
