Henwick says Colleen’s ending was too good to casually undo
Jessica Henwick says she passed on Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 because Colleen Wing’s return needed a substantial story. Speaking to Inverse, the actor confirmed that she and Marvel had discussed bringing Colleen back, but said, “I’m not in this season.”
Her concern is rooted in where Iron Fist left the character. Colleen inherited the Iron Fist mantle from Danny Rand, had Misty Knight beside her, and appeared to have an optimistic future ahead. Henwick described that outcome as “a really great note” and said she was unwilling to dismantle it without a compelling reason.
“I’m just not interested in bringing her back unless it’s worth sort of unpicking that happiness,” Henwick said. She also dismissed the prospect of returning only to be “just stood in the back of the shot.” Colleen Wing has earned better than cameo wallpaper, and Henwick clearly agrees.
Season 3 will move ahead without Colleen Wing
Colleen Wing will not appear in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, according to Henwick. Her absence closes off one possible part of the anticipated Defenders-era reunion, even as interest builds around Luke Cage and Iron Fist potentially returning.
Henwick previously played Colleen across Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and The Defenders. Her character became one of the strongest loose threads from that run of Marvel series, particularly after the Iron Fist Season 2 finale positioned her alongside Misty Knight in a pairing inspired by Daughters of the Dragon.
The actor’s account also clarifies that a return was genuinely discussed rather than existing solely as fan wish-casting. Marvel has not separately detailed those conversations, so the decision and its circumstances rest on Henwick’s first-person account.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is expected to arrive in spring 2027. Anyone hoping Colleen would join the season’s returning faces can cross that name off the board, although Henwick’s decision leaves room for something more worthwhile later.
The door remains open for a substantial Colleen Wing return
Henwick still wants to play Colleen Wing again if Marvel finds the right story. She said she would “absolutely love to come back,” provided the character has a meaningful role and the plot earns whatever trouble drags her away from that happy ending.
That position is consistent with her earlier choices. Henwick previously turned down a different role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings because she hoped to preserve the possibility of returning as Colleen.
For Marvel, the brief is refreshingly clear: give Colleen something important to do. Henwick is not rejecting the character or the wider Marvel universe; she is protecting an ending that worked until a better continuation comes along. In a franchise where familiar faces can materialise for applause and disappear one scene later, that is a fair line to draw.
