DC Studios hasn’t found a part for Alan Ritchson yet, but it hasn’t stopped looking. In an interview with Collider, studio co-CEO Peter Safran confirmed that he and his team have held several conversations with the Reacher star. IGN reports that the studio has eyed Ritchson for a handful of projects, though none has come to fruition.
Safran’s answer was less about casting and more about how DC sees the actor. IGN quotes him saying Ritchson is “just good”, adding that there’s “a lot more depth to him than you might have seen”. As SuperHeroHype reproduces the exchange, Safran also said he thinks there’s more Ritchson can do that audiences haven’t seen. That reads as a studio looking beyond the imposing action lead he plays in Reacher, rather than one hunting for the biggest man available.
Not Batman, and no role named
Ritchson has long topped fan wishlists for the DCU’s Batman, but nothing in Safran’s comments points that way. The actor himself played down the idea in 2025. He told Variety that “words have been exchanged about Batman”, but that he strongly doesn’t think the part is in his future, while still expecting something with DC.
The Dark Knight’s casting is unresolved anyway. IGN notes that Robert Pattinson is not expected to carry his version of the character into James Gunn’s DCU, and that Pattinson has said the tonal gap between the two worlds could be too jarring. The DCU is expected to introduce an older Batman with a son, Damian Wayne, but IGN points out that the project was announced nearly four years ago with very few updates since. The character has had a brief cameo in Creature Commandos and doesn’t appear in Clayface, so the studio looks to be holding him back until it has the right entry point.
That leaves Ritchson’s possible role open. IGN speculates that his build suits physically imposing characters such as Bane or Deathstroke, and says DC is producing a film built around the pair. That’s the outlet’s guess rather than anything Safran said, and neither he nor the studio has named a character, project or timeline.
For now, then, the status is simple: both sides want to work together, and the right part hasn’t turned up. We’ll update this story if DC Studios names a role for Ritchson.
Has DC Studios cast Alan Ritchson in the DCU?
No. Safran told Collider the studio has talked with Ritchson about a couple of projects, but nothing has come to fruition so far.
Will Alan Ritchson play Batman?
It looks unlikely. Ritchson told Variety in 2025 that he strongly doesn’t think Batman is in his future, and the DCU hasn’t announced who will play its Batman.
Where can I watch Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher?
Reacher is a Prime Video series, and Ritchson leads it. Check the Prime Video library in your country for availability.
