Robert Pattinson has publicly backed Steven Soderbergh’s role in finishing The Batman Part II, calling the director’s decision to step in “selfless”. In an interview with GamesRadar+ published on 26 October, the actor also said production has restarted and that he’s due back on set within days.

The comments come after a turbulent few weeks. Matt Reeves left the shoot earlier this month to deal with a family matter, and Soderbergh then offered to complete principal photography with DC Studios’ full support, as we covered when the news broke. Reeves has said he isn’t leaving the film and is due to handle post-production. IGN describes the arrangement as a friend helping a friend rather than a studio swapping directors.

Pattinson, who was speaking to promote his film Primetime, framed it the same way. He told GamesRadar+, “I am so happy he’s come on to help Matt,” adding that Soderbergh is going about it generously and in a gracious manner. He said Reeves had put a great deal of work into the script and that the production is nearly done. In his telling, Soderbergh’s pitch was to work alongside Reeves and get the film to the edit, which fits the studio’s account that he approached Reeves rather than the other way round.

Asked when filming picks up again, Pattinson said, “I think they’re in production already,” and that he starts “in a couple of days”. That suggests the closing stretch is already under way with Soderbergh behind the camera. The shoot began in London over the summer, and Pattinson has said before that the script is “extraordinary” and “very, very different” from the first film, so the cast has a lot riding on a smooth finish.

None of the interview changes the schedule. GamesRadar+ still lists the film for 18 February 2028, and no new date has been announced. The cast, which includes Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, hasn’t commented on how the pause affects their remaining days on set.

According to GamesRadar+, Pattinson is also mid-promotion for Primetime, which opens in UK cinemas on 30 October and reaches digital in the US on 3 November. We haven’t seen a UAE date for it. His wider press run has already produced a few Batman remarks, including that the fight scenes are harder to perform this time round.
