Connor Storrie, the Heated Rivalry breakout, is in talks to play the villain in Marvel Studios’ Ghost Rider, opposite Ryan Gosling. IGN relays a report from The Hollywood Reporter that has Storrie facing off with Gosling’s Johnny Blaze. Marvel hasn’t announced the casting, and “in talks” means no deal is confirmed yet.

Which villain Storrie would play is still unknown. According to Gizmodo, Knight Edge Media first reported Storrie’s attachment, with the Hollywood Reporter confirming he’s in talks for the villain role. Gizmodo notes that Ghost Rider’s primary villain is usually Mephisto, a role Sacha Baron Cohen has already played in the MCU. Cohen recently said he had “no idea” about the project. IGN adds that there had been questions over whether Gosling would play a different Ghost Rider, but THR’s reporting suggests Blaze, the character most people expected.

The part would be a step up for Storrie. He exploded onto the scene this year in the hockey romance Heated Rivalry, and IGN points out that he’d previously appeared in Joker: Folie à Deux as the inmate who fatally stabs Arthur Fleck and is heavily implied to be the “real Joker”. That role lasted a couple of minutes, so a lead antagonist in a Marvel film would give him far more screen time. His show has its own plans too, since Heated Rivalry season 2 has already cast Justice Smith and Charlie Gillespie as a couple.

The film is moving quickly. IGN says Marvel confirmed it at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, with Shawn Levy directing after working with Marvel on Deadpool & Wolverine and with Gosling on the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter. THR adds that Linus Sandgren, the cinematographer on Dune: Part Three, will shoot the film on film stock. Gizmodo reports that filming takes place in New York next year, with a release currently set for 28 July 2028.

Ghost Rider is also expected to be one of the first Marvel films after Avengers: Secret Wars, which IGN says should usher in a new era for the MCU. Marvel’s supernatural side is already getting attention elsewhere, as Oscar Isaac has teased a Midnight Sons movie. Plot details for Ghost Rider remain under wraps.
