Sony Pictures has released a second trailer for Jumanji: Open World, and it puts the game’s escape in plain view: jungle animals tearing through a suburb at Christmas. IGN posted the new trailer on 28 October, billing it as the start of “the final countdown” for the third and last film in the modern trilogy. For UAE viewers, VOX Cinemas lists a release date of 24 December 2026, a day ahead of the US opening on 25 December.

The pitch hasn’t changed since the first trailer in July. Sony’s synopsis says the heroes have escaped Jumanji’s jungles before, but this time the game breaks free of its console and unleashes chaos in our world. What the second trailer adds is scale and tone. According to Comic Basics, it opens on animals rampaging through suburbia during the Christmas season, and shows Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan as stilted versions of their avatars, apparently stuck in demo mode.

Body-swapping is back too. Comic Basics, citing Nerdist, reports that the trailer hints at someone’s mum ending up inside Johnson’s body and becoming the group’s best hope of survival. That keeps the franchise’s core joke intact while moving it out of the jungle, which is a sensible move for a film that has to justify a third outing.

The “final” label comes with a caveat worth tracking. Dark Horizons reports that the studio says this will be the last film after 2017’s Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s The Next Level. The same report says the core quartet returns alongside their on-screen players Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner and Ser’Darius Blain, with Danny DeVito and Nick Jonas also back. Jake Kasdan directs for the third time from a script he co-wrote with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.

The release date has also shifted. Comic Basics says the film was first set for 11 December before moving two weeks to Christmas Day in March 2026. In the UAE, VOX lists the film as English-language with Arabic subtitles and a 100-minute running time. Screenings are listed across its mall locations in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. Booking pages and showtimes will depend on each cinema chain, so check closer to the date.

When does Jumanji: Open World open in the UAE?

VOX Cinemas UAE lists 24 December 2026. The US release is 25 December 2026, according to Sony’s announced date as reported by Dark Horizons and Comic Basics.

Is Jumanji: Open World really the last Jumanji film?

Dark Horizons reports that the studio describes it as the final film after Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level. IGN also bills it as the third and final instalment of the trilogy.

Do I need to have seen the earlier Jumanji films?

Not to follow the premise, which Sony frames as the game escaping into the real world. The returning cast and avatar gags build on Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level, so those are worth a rewatch before December.
