It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 is official. HBO and Warner Bros. Television announced on Monday that the Stephen King prequel has been renewed, with Brad Caleb Kane stepping up as sole showrunner.

It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 is set in 1935
Season 1 took place during the Cold War. Season 2 goes back almost 30 years. The official logline:
“Takes place in 1935 during the Great Depression and centers on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammo and end up facing unimaginable horror.”
In King’s novel, the Bradley Gang were Midwestern outlaws in the vein of John Dillinger or Bonnie and Clyde — eight members, led by brothers Al and George Bradley. They were already part of the show: in Season 1’s second episode, the US Air Force exhumed their car, corpses still inside, during Operation Precept, and the gang’s shootout runs through the animated opening credits.
Who is running the show?
Kane co-showran Season 1 with Jason Fuchs; he now runs Season 2 alone. The renewal had been expected for some time — HBO was waiting on the creative take for the new season, per Deadline.
“Continuing to explore and expand on the amazing world Stephen King created is an absolute privilege. The support of our partners at HBO and Warner Bros. Television is priceless. Boy do we love our jobs!”
Andy and Barbara Muschietti, executive producers
The Muschiettis return as executive producers under their Double Dream banner, alongside Kane, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jamie Travis and Dhana Gilbert. Bill Skarsgård is back as Pennywise, and Sarah Aubrey, head of HBO Max Original Programming, has promised Season 2 will “deepen the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore.” Season 1 ranked among the top four series premieres in HBO Max history after launching last October.
No release date has been announced. For once, Derry is the one waiting. Season 1 streams on OSN+ in the UAE — the same service that carried it at launch.
When does It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 come out?
HBO confirmed the renewal on 17 August 2026, roughly eight months after Season 1’s finale, but has not yet announced a release window.
Is It: Welcome to Derry based on a Stephen King book?
The series is an original prequel set in the world of King’s novel It. Season 2 draws on the novel’s 1935 interludes, which tell the Bradley Gang’s story.
Will Jason Fuchs return for It: Welcome to Derry Season 2?
No announcement has been made about Fuchs’s involvement. Brad Caleb Kane, who co-showran Season 1 with Fuchs, is now sole showrunner.
