Vin Diesel says Fast Forever, the 11th and final Fast & Furious film, starts shooting in December. He gave the date at Monday night’s 25th anniversary screening of The Fast and the Furious in Los Angeles, telling Variety the studio had asked for it.

“We start shooting in December, if I can make good on the request from the studio.”

The script went through four sets of writers and four years of development, and the latest draft left Diesel crying. His sister’s verdict was blunt.

“No more crying, bro.”

The anniversary screening honoured a film that launched Universal’s longest-running franchise. Diesel has played Dominic Toretto in every mainline entry since.

The man directing it has not read the script. Louis Leterrier, back for the finale after Fast X, told Polygon he could not say much about it.

“I’d love to tell you the full truth, but I can’t. There will be an ending, and it’s great.”

It is the first firm timeline since reports claimed the film had still not entered production.

When is Fast Forever released?

Fast Forever is due in cinemas on 17 March 2028. It closes the most profitable franchise in Universal’s catalogue, which has taken $7.3 billion worldwide.

The Abu Dhabi connection

Furious 7 sent a Lykan Hypersport flying between Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Towers — the franchise’s most famous stunt, and one of the few big-screen moments where the capital played itself. Fast Forever’s locations have not been confirmed, so whether the final lap returns to the UAE is an open question. Much of the sequence was assembled on stages, though the production did film in Abu Dhabi. The send-off still closes a saga whose most recognisable image is a car in mid-air outside the capital.
