Disney has set a 2028 opening for the two new rides in its Avengers Campus expansion at Disney California Adventure — and confirmed which Avengers will voice them.
Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab will both debut in 2028 as part of an expansion that doubles the size of the Marvel land. Robert Downey Jr. reprises Iron Man for both attractions, the Orange County Register reports, with Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) joining him on Avengers Infinity Defense. Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) voices Stark Flight Lab.
The details landed during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23 in Anaheim on August 15, alongside the first proper look at Magic Kingdom’s Villains Land and a week after Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday sizzle dominated the D23 Entertainment Showcase.
What is the Avengers Campus expansion?
Two attractions were announced at D23 2024 and have been under construction behind Avengers Headquarters since 2025. This year’s update set the opening year for both and named the cast:
- Avengers Infinity Defense — a motion-based dark ride where recruits board a world-jumping spaceship and travel to Asgard, Wakanda and New York before facing King Thanos, a version of the villain who won. Iman Vellani reprises Ms. Marvel for the pre-mission briefing. WDW News Today notes the ride uses the same 3D ride system as Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure at Tokyo DisneySea.
- Stark Flight Lab — guests sit in two-person “gyro-kinetic pods” that roll along a track before attaching to a giant robotic arm, which whirls them through simulated Iron Man-style flight. Each arm has its own personality, in the spirit of DUM-E from the films.
The expansion also reconnects the land with Cars Land, which Disney confirmed alongside the opening dates. Disney’s briefing images show the new layout running behind Avengers Headquarters.
What else did Disney announce at D23?
The Horizons event carried more than 50 announcements, from a Dreamfinder-and-Figment reunion at EPCOT to first looks at the Monstropolis land, an Indiana Jones ride at Animal Kingdom and a Tomorrowland reimagining at Disneyland. Disneyland Abu Dhabi was not among them — the Yas Island resort’s only D23 presence was a sizzle reel on the show floor replaying its original 2025 announcement.
