Hayley Atwell has called Captain Carter’s death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness “a complete disservice” to the character. Her description of what happens to her: the alternate Peggy Carter “gets frisbeed to death.”
Speaking at the For the Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi convention in London this weekend, Atwell said she was “so disappointed” with how the scene played out and that her attempts to change it on set went nowhere. IGN and Deadline report.
Why Captain Carter got “frisbeed to death”
In the 2022 film, an alternate-universe Peggy Carter fights as Captain Carter, one of the Illuminati. She gets a handful of lines, quotes Steve Rogers’ “I could do this all day,” and is cut down within seconds when Wanda Maximoff sends Carter’s own shield slicing back into her.
“If I’m really brutally honest, I was so disappointed with how they positioned her and what happened to her in that scene. It’s so small, and she gets frisbeed to death.”
“I tried on set to kind of go, ‘Can I just add? Can I just suggest?’ And they were like, ‘Sure, but no.’ I felt that was like a bum steer and a complete disservice to the character.”

It is not the first time she has aired the complaint. In 2023 she told the Happy Sad Confused podcast that the “I could do this all day” beat, followed by an immediate death, “doesn’t really serve Peggy very well.” She also revealed she uses Carter’s line “I know my value” in her contract negotiations with Marvel.
Hayley Atwell returns as Captain Carter in Avengers: Doomsday
Atwell is expected back as Carter in Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in theatres on December 18. She said the character was “fun” in the Captain Carter guise and hopes for more of it, alongside her Comic-Con suit-up in the role.
“I hope maybe one day in the future they’ll give her more in that capacity.”
Avengers: Doomsday is expected in UAE cinemas around the same December 18 global release.
