Comic-Con 2026: Deadpool and Peggy Carter suit up for Avengers: Doomsday

IGN Middle East reports that Ryan Reynolds and Hayley Atwell will reprise Deadpool and Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday after appearing at Hall H.

What did Marvel reveal about Deadpool and Peggy Carter?

Our sister site IGN Middle East reports that Ryan Reynolds and Hayley Atwell will return as Deadpool and Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday. Both actors appeared on stage during Marvel’s announcement panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con.

Reynolds arrived in character and wearing a grey Deadpool suit, which he described as his “Canadian tuxedo”. The audience had been given plastic Doctor Doom masks, but Deadpool naturally had a fashion-based reason for declining another layer.

“I’m not wearing a Doom mask over this mask because I don’t want to ruin the lines of my Canadian tuxedo,” Reynolds said. It is an impressively Deadpool way to deliver casting news: confirm the superhero crossover, then spend the moment discussing outfit geometry.

The report identifies Atwell’s returning character as Peggy Carter but provides no corresponding plot, costume, or scene details. It therefore does not establish which version of Peggy will appear or how substantial her part will be.

Has Ryan Reynolds already filmed his Deadpool scenes?

The Hall H exchange strongly supports Deadpool’s inclusion, but it does not directly confirm whether every Ryan Reynolds scene has been filmed.

During the panel, Deadpool asked directors Joe and Antony Russo when filming would begin so that he could stop by for a cameo. The brothers replied that the film was “already in the can”, while adding that they were still tinkering with it.

“In the can” is industry shorthand for completed principal photography, but the line arrived as part of a comedic exchange. The source considers it very likely that Reynolds has already filmed his material; the Russos did not explicitly confirm his shooting schedule, the number of scenes involved, or whether further filming could happen.

That leaves one useful boundary around the announcement. Deadpool is part of the reported cast, while the scale of his appearance remains open. A cameo, supporting role, and major ensemble part would all create very different films, especially when the character is professionally incapable of entering a room quietly.

What remains unknown about their Avengers: Doomsday roles?

The report confirms the returning characters but reveals no story details or information about how Deadpool and Peggy Carter fit into the ensemble.

Marvel has plenty of possibilities available, but guessing which Peggy appears or how Deadpool meets the wider cast would move beyond what was shown at the panel. The safest reading is limited to the casting itself: Reynolds and Atwell are returning in their respective Marvel roles.

As a pairing, it is immediately intriguing. Deadpool brings fourth-wall-breaking chaos, while Peggy Carter carries a long history within Marvel’s screen universe. Putting both names into one Avengers film makes the ensemble more interesting before either character has delivered a single plot detail—which, given Deadpool’s arrival, may be the last quiet moment this production gets.
