For Inde Navarrette, Heat 2 was reportedly in reach until she signed on as Rogue in Marvel’s X-Men. The Obsession star has passed on a role in Michael Mann’s sequel — the part of Sharlene, played by Ashley Judd in the 1995 original — to honour her commitment to the mutant ensemble, per Page Six. IGN picked the story up the same day.

Inde Navarrette Heat 2: what the reports say

Heat 2 starts shooting this autumn, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale attached. Navarrette was being wooed for Sharlene — Charlene Shiherlis, Ashley Judd’s role in the 1995 crime classic — before her X-Men casting was revealed at D23 last week. A knowledgeable source told Page Six she is no longer in contention to join the cast.

Reports differ on whether she is fully out. Dark Horizons notes a newer claim from Nexus Point News that Navarrette remains in contention for a much smaller part, a character named Gabriella, with Eiza González and Odessa Young linked to other roles. Nothing has been confirmed either way.

The Obsession bump

The Heat 2 decision was not her only refusal. Page Six reports she also passed on a horror project directed by Matthias Hoene that would have paid $2.5 million. “She is on everyone’s short list right now,” a prominent producer told the outlet, noting that she regularly turns down mid-seven-figure offers.

She reportedly made around $20,000 for Obsession; the offers have adjusted since. The Focus Features horror, made for about $750,000, has earned close to $500 million worldwide, per Page Six, and an awards campaign is being mounted.

“I really want to prove that ‘Obsession’ wasn’t just lightning in a bottle. This is something that I really love and want to continue doing, but of course that’s going to take time.”

Navarrette’s Rogue is part of an X-Men cast that also includes Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and Kit Connor as Scott Summers, revealed at D23 alongside the film’s yellow-X logo. She had previously said she had her eye on Mystique after meeting director Jake Schreier, and original Rogue voice actress Lenore Zann has already welcomed her to the role. The film is due in cinemas on 5 May 2028. Heat 2’s casting, meanwhile, is still settling.
