Christopher Abbott says he knew Kraven the Hunter was going wrong while filming Sony’s 2024 Spider-Man spin-off. He told Josh Horowitz he could not understand what his character’s power was or what happened when he removed his glasses. The comments came in the Happy Sad Confused interview, and IGN reported his account.

Why Kraven the Hunter left Abbott unsure
Abbott played the Foreigner, whose powers involve hypnosis, in Kraven the Hunter, according to ComicBookMovie. In the interview, he said he did not understand the power or what was meant to happen when he removed his glasses.
“I didn’t understand what the power was, what the superpower was. I didn’t know what was going on.”

Horowitz asked whether Abbott realised the film was not working while he was shooting it or only after seeing the finished version. Abbott said the doubts came during production, not in hindsight; IGN’s report and the full interview both carry the exchange.
“In the moment, I was like, ‘I don’t think this is going well.’”

The interview was released on October 1. Marvel had announced Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier in its upcoming X-Men film in August, with a theatrical release set for May 5, 2028, according to Marvel’s cast announcement. Tbreak has also covered Asa Germann joining the cast and the film’s D23 logo reveal.
Did Abbott criticise his co-stars in Kraven the Hunter?
No. He said he could criticise his own performance, praised Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Alessandro Nivola, and said the people involved were great. The interview contains the full exchange.
Why did Abbott agree to appear in Kraven the Hunter?
Abbott said director J.C. Chandor asked him, and he wanted to see how a film of that scale worked. He called the experience interesting in the interview.
