Canva has launched Craft, an image-generation model available globally through Dream Lab. It supports up to 2K resolution and more than 30 aspect ratios, with a planning stage that works out the layout before rendering the image.

Canva says this approach improves text placement and composition. Craft’s public API is available, while MCP support for AI assistants and faster model variants are coming later.

How does editable AI design fit into Canva?

In its separate research overview, Canva explains that Magic Layers uses a decomposition model to identify elements within a flat image. Combined with its font library, that system can produce editable text rather than leaving lettering baked into pixels. The research team includes more than 160 scientists and engineers, and its work also covers image-to-video generation.

That focus on editing sits alongside Canva’s broader creative software range, including the unified Affinity app for vector, photo and page-layout work. Generating an image and adjusting a finished design remain different parts of the workflow.
