Apple Music has a new identity, and the red is gone. The logo, wordmark and app icon now run in black and white, and Apple says the whole look was “made by sound”. 9to5Mac reports that iPhone owners will see the refreshed branding in iOS 27.2 when it launches next week.
Apple announced the change in a post from the Apple Music account on X, crediting an original composition from Fred again.. and NEST Acoustics.
The “made by sound” line is literal. Creative Boom reports that Fred again.. and NEST Acoustics wrote a piece of music, split it into individual notes and played each one through a transducer sitting in a bath of mineral oil. The ripples were captured entirely in camera and became the basis of the visual identity, which Apple built with its long-time agency TBWA\Media Arts Lab. The same composition doubles as Apple Music’s new sonic signature, so the brand is meant to look and sound like one thing. Apple also published a behind-the-scenes video, as it did when Apple TV rebranded.
MacRumors reports that Apple Music’s visuals now use a black-and-white scheme instead of red, with the rebrand rolling out fully in iOS 27.2, macOS 27.2 and the other 27.2 releases. MacRumors expects those updates next week. The new logo and icon have already shown up in the iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2 betas, so the Mac gets the same treatment as the iPhone. In light mode the icon is black on white, and in dark mode it flips to white on black.
According to Creative Boom, this is the service’s first rebrand since its 2015 launch. The wordmark first appeared in September, in marketing for Apple Music Hall, a live music venue in London.
What it means for the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt
The change is cosmetic, and nothing in the announcement touches plans or pricing. Because the new icon ships inside the iOS and macOS updates, iPhone and Mac users in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt should see it once they install 27.2. Apple’s UAE page lists the Individual plan at AED 23.99 a month after a one-month free trial for new subscribers. The Family plan is AED 39.99 and the Student plan AED 12.99.
If you’ve kept the red icon in your Dock or on your home screen out of habit, expect a short adjustment period, as the new icon is far less distinctive in an app switcher.
When will the new Apple Music icon appear on my iPhone?
MacRumors expects iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2 next week, and the new icon comes with those updates. Developers and beta testers on the iOS 27.2 betas already have the black-and-white icon.
Does the rebrand change Apple Music prices in the UAE?
The rebrand is a visual and sonic refresh, with no pricing change attached. Apple’s UAE page currently lists Individual at AED 23.99 a month, Family at AED 39.99 and Student at AED 12.99.
Will the Mac Music app change too?
Yes. The new logo has also appeared in macOS 27.2 betas, and MacRumors says the rebrand rolls out fully with macOS 27.2.
