Disney has confirmed Zootopia 3, announced on stage at its D23 fan event in Anaheim. Disney Animation chief creative officer Jared Bush made the announcement, with Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan on hand.

The bunny is Judy Hopps, the rabbit officer Goodwin has voiced since 2016. The snake is Gary De’Snake, the pit viper Ke Huy Quan played in last year’s sequel. The third film’s bigger addition is avian — a shift Zootopia 2 already planted. In its post-credits scene, a single feather drifts onto Judy’s windowsill, per WDWNT.

Details are scarce, which is standard for a film three-plus years out: no synopsis, no full cast list, no confirmed directors. What is confirmed is the franchise’s momentum. Zootopia 2 took $1.8 billion at the global box office — the largest global opening ever for an animated film — and earned a best animated feature Oscar nomination, per Deadline. The 2016 original crossed $1 billion and spawned the Zootopia+ spin-off on Disney+.
Bush had signalled where the franchise was headed long before this: at the Zootopia 2 premiere, he told The Hollywood Reporter the studio had “only seen one city on one continent on one planet. There’s quite a lot more stories to tell.”

The announcement landed in a D23 that also brought first looks at Coco 2 and Incredibles 3, the rest of Disney’s animation slate.
