Pixar Ghost Market, the studio’s next original film and its first ghost movie, arrives in theatres in spring 2028. Chief content officer Pete Docter revealed it during D23, the Disney fan convention, per Variety.

What is Pixar Ghost Market about?

The film follows Kyle, a fast-talking teenager and content creator from Chicago. A family holiday in Hawaii leads him to a hidden market in the middle of nowhere, where he was only looking for a late-night snack.

“Kyle is a fast-talking teenager and content creator from Chicago. His life gets turned upside down when his mom forces him to go on vacation to Hawaii. He stumbles into a mysterious hidden market in the middle of nowhere. He realizes his hunt for a late-night snack has turned into something bigger. He’s discovered the crossroads of the living and the dead.”

Footage shown at the convention had Kyle in a dark, empty kitchen, finding a bowl of warm soup no one admits to making. “Hey, do you guys take Apple Pay?” he asks the room. On a FaceTime call he explains the market runs on hungry ghosts — and that Ghost Market is not like those other scary movies.

When does Pixar Ghost Market come out?

The film was announced in March under the working title Ono Ghost Market. It began life as a planned Disney+ series before Pixar promoted it to a feature, the same pivot that turned Moana 2 into a $1 billion theatrical run. Trevor Jimenez, the Pixar veteran behind the Oscar-nominated 2017 short Weekends, is reported to direct.

Disney has 10 March 2028 reserved for a Pixar release, per Deadline. That puts Ghost Market in a two-film year with The Incredibles 3 — the sixth time Pixar has released two features in a calendar year, following Hoppers and Toy Story 5 in 2026. Coco 2, revealed at the same convention, follows in 2029.

Pixar shared a short teaser of Kyle alongside the announcement.

Pixar’s recent releases, including Hoppers and Toy Story 5, opened in UAE cinemas, and Ghost Market should follow the same route; a local date is usually confirmed closer to release.
