YouTube is bringing YouTube conversational editing to Shorts and the YouTube Create app, letting creators assemble and revise videos by describing what they want in ordinary language.
The Gemini-powered assistant can create a first edit from a creator’s footage, then respond to follow-up requests to reorder clips, trim pauses, sync music to the beat and adjust pacing. YouTube’s official example shows a creator selecting the best take from several outfits before adding music and transitions.
YouTube conversational editing keeps the timeline open
The editing assistant is designed as a partner rather than a locked automatic process. Creators can move between the chat-based workflow and the manual timeline, making their own changes when the generated edit misses the intended rhythm or style.
YouTube says the tool will work in both Shorts and YouTube Create. TechCrunch reports that the feature is due to arrive in early 2027, although the announcement does not give a UAE-specific release date. The company has not said whether every editing function will be available in every market at launch.
What the AI editor can do
The tool can suggest or apply edits such as removing pauses, reordering frames, syncing music and adding text overlays. It can also make suggestions based on the conversation and the footage, which moves it beyond a single prompt followed by a fixed export.
YouTube says hundreds of thousands of channels used Gemini Omni in a day during August. Its cited GenAI trends report also found that 72% of US video posters aged 14–44 had used AI to help create or edit video in the previous year. Those figures describe broader AI use, not adoption of this new editor specifically.
The approach gives creators a faster starting point while leaving the final cut in their hands. That distinction will matter to channels whose editing style is part of the product, rather than an obstacle between a camera roll and a publish button.
The feature follows YouTube’s earlier AI additions to Shorts and YouTube Create, including Gemini Omni-powered remixing. YouTube’s conversational search tools show how the platform is also applying chat interfaces to discovery, while its Veo 3 Shorts rollout points to the wider push to keep more creation inside YouTube’s own apps.
