AMC and Canal+ have greenlit a Point Break TV series set more than 30 years after the 1991 film, with an eight-episode first season due to enter production in early 2027.
Point Break TV series follows a new Ex-Presidents crew
The series will be produced by Alcon Television Group, AMC Studios and StudioCanal. AMC and AMC+ will carry it in the US, while Canal+ will handle France and its wider pay-TV footprint across Europe, Africa and Asia. StudioCanal will manage international sales and distribution outside the US and Canada, according to Variety and Deadline.
The story takes place in the present day, with a new heist crew inspired by the Ex-Presidents emerging after the events of the film. The FBI turns to a mysterious former professional surfer with a troubled past to infiltrate the group.
Dave Kalstein and Christopher C. Rogers are the co-showrunners and executive producers. Kalstein’s credits include Treadstone and NCIS: Los Angeles, while Rogers worked on Sugar and AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire.
No cast has been announced for the new series
Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze starred in the original Point Break as FBI agent Johnny Utah and surfer Bodhi. Kathryn Bigelow directed the 1991 film, which followed Utah as he investigated a gang of surfers robbing banks while wearing masks of US presidents.
No casting has been announced for the television series, and the project is not a continuation with Reeves returning as Utah. A 2015 remake starring Luke Bracey and Édgar Ramírez was released before the new series entered development.
AMC announced the project was in development in December 2025. The network has now ordered the first season, with filming planned for early 2027. There is no release date yet.
The new Point Break series has no confirmed UAE broadcaster or streaming date. Canal+ says the project is intended for its international footprint, but that does not confirm availability in the UAE.
