What did Kevin Feige say about Blade?
Kevin Feige admitted the Blade reboot has effectively failed to launch, telling interviewer Josh Horowitz he feels like a “gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala.” The line came as Feige was asked directly about the film, and his own reply — “Shall we get into a therapy session?” — tells you how the project sits inside Marvel right now.
He balanced the regret against a win, saying he was “very excited” that Wesley Snipes returned briefly in Deadpool & Wolverine. But the framing is clear: the new Blade, announced back in 2019 with Mahershala Ali cast as Marvel’s vampire hunter, has gone nowhere in seven years.
Is the Blade reboot cancelled?
No, Blade has not been formally cancelled, but it is off Marvel’s release calendar with no fixed date and no clear production path. That distinction matters more than it sounds — “delayed indefinitely” and “cancelled” look identical from the audience seat, but Marvel has not issued a cancellation statement, and Ali has not been publicly written off the role.
Variety, which reported Feige’s latest comments, previously noted that Marvel took the film off its schedule in autumn 2024. Its 2025 reporting had Ali “still attached” and the story settled on a contemporary setting, yet with no director in place after multiple exits. Feige has been candid about why: the script cycled through “three or four” incarnations, two of them period pieces, and Marvel simply did not feel confident it could turn a good script into a great one during production. “We didn’t want to do that to Mahershala and didn’t want to do that to us,” he said.
The wreckage is unusually visible. Mia Goth has described flying to Atlanta for a chemistry test with Ali and getting fitted for a 1920s wig before that version collapsed. A full wardrobe made for the film’s background artists was eventually sold off — and reportedly turned up in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. Even David S. Goyer, who wrote the original Snipes trilogy, has said he has been “totally puzzled” watching from the sidelines.
What about the Blade video game?
The Marvel’s Blade video game faces its own separate cloud of uncertainty. It is in development at Arkane Lyon, the Microsoft-owned studio behind Dishonored, and Arkane Lyon is among the studios set to leave Microsoft ownership amid sweeping layoffs across Xbox.
The film’s stalled status and the game’s shaky footing are not confirmed to be linked, but the timing means UAE Marvel fans currently have two Blade projects in limbo at once. For now, neither has a release date fans can put in a diary, and neither should be treated as imminent.
