Ubisoft is not done with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and its game director spent a recent interview doing something refreshingly candid: admitting he is worried everyone will drop his game the second GTA 6 arrives. Richard Knight confirmed that post-launch support is coming to the single-player remake, then followed it with a plea that doubles as an honest read on where the industry’s attention is about to go.
“Also, please play us when GTA 6 comes out,” Knight said in the interview, per MP1st, which reported the comments. It is a self-aware line, and a fair one. Rockstar’s open-world crime game is shaping up to be the biggest release of the generation, and plenty of titles releasing near it will simply get buried.
What post-launch features is Black Flag Resynced getting?
The headline addition is New Game+, which Knight confirmed the team is actively working on right now. He described it as a “low-risk feature” because Assassin’s Creed Shadows already shipped with New Game+, so the studio has a template to follow. The catch, as with everything else here, is timing: Knight was clear the team cannot commit to a day and date yet.
Beyond New Game+, Knight laid out a list of things in various stages of development. The team is testing a catch-ledge mechanic borrowed from Shadows, which acts as a parkour safety net — miss a jump and holding a directional input toward a nearby structure grabs a ledge mid-fall. Knight said it “should work,” without committing to when. A senior programmer is also working on a cosmetic tweak that would let the blowpipe be hidden from Edward Kenway’s back. The weapon itself is already in the game; this is purely about how it holsters.
Then there is the wishlist that comes with heavier caveats. The team is looking at adding side objectives to missions in the style of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, though Knight admitted there is no timetable and no guarantee it ships “if at all.” Community demand for dedicated hidden blade combat has been heard, but he would not promise it. And underpinning all of it is the unglamorous work: bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements. Knight apologised to players hitting bugs, calling them “painful for us, too.”
Why is the director worried about GTA 6?
Knight’s plea reflects a genuine retention problem for any game orbiting Rockstar’s release window. GTA 6 is expected to be the biggest launch of the generation, and MP1st has reported estimates suggesting it may have already generated up to $260 million in pre-orders, with launch figures potentially surpassing $5 billion. When a single title commands that much attention, everything else risks becoming background noise.
The encouraging part is that Ubisoft has a track record here. Assassin’s Creed Shadows received not just DLC but new features and free content after launch, and Knight’s comments suggest Resynced is on a similar path rather than a one-and-done patch cycle. Whether that is enough to keep players from drifting off to Los Santos is another question entirely — but at least the studio is being upfront about the fight it is in.
Is the game worth playing now?
Black Flag Resynced is out now on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it is a pure single-player experience with no multiplayer mode. This is a substantial reworking rather than a quick coat of paint: Ubisoft has overhauled the combat, updated parkour and stealth with systems from newer entries, removed the original’s modern-day sections to focus entirely on Edward Kenway, and added hours of new story content and missions.
The remake also arrived to strong commercial momentum — it hit two million sales in its first 24 hours, albeit alongside a familiar row over microtransactions. On that front, Ubisoft maintains the in-game purchases are optional and never required to complete the game, though that remains a publisher claim rather than an independently verified one. IGN Middle East has since reported that the game’s New Game+ was formally confirmed as Ubisoft marked three million copies sold. For anyone who wants a big solo adventure to sink into before GTA 6 swallows the calendar whole, Knight is essentially making the pitch himself.
