There is no downloadable build of GTA 6 floating around — the files claiming to be one are malware. GTA 6 malware has spread across piracy and torrent sites this week, riding the wave of gameplay clips from a leaker who goes by CyberLeek.
Security researchers at NordVPN say the fake downloads have circulated all year, but the recent leaks gave them a second wind. IGN reports the files “will compromise your computer in various ways” — credential harvesting, infostealers and worse are the usual payloads on cloned repack sites.
The pattern is a familiar one. When a game this anticipated leaks, impersonators, fake AI videos and now fake “playable” downloads all crowd in behind it. NordVPN’s CTO Marijus Briedis put it plainly:
“Every time GTA 6 makes headlines, leaked footage spreads through re-uploads, Discord links, and unofficial mirrors, which is exactly the environment where fake ‘leak’ downloads and credential-harvesting pages thrive. Fans looking for leaks or removed clips might land on unfamiliar sites, and in that moment they trust what they find. That’s the window attackers exploit.”

There is a difference between a leaked clip and a leaked game. A playable build has surfaced before — Marvel’s Wolverine ended up online after the Insomniac hack in late 2023 — but there is no indication anything similar has happened with GTA 6. The leaked footage itself may suggest otherwise: one clip shows a character spelling the leaker’s handle in bullet holes, which reads more like a working build than a hoax. Rockstar and Take-Two have not commented.
The scam depends on that confusion. NordVPN has tracked the fake builds through clones of known repack sites, and its research shows the malware is not subtle once it lands — it can harvest Rockstar Social Club credentials and drop infostealers.
