Afil Games says its entire catalogue of PS4 and PS5 titles will soon be removed from the PlayStation Store after Sony introduced stricter guidelines for publishing games on its platform.
The Brazilian developer has released more than 140 games on PlayStation, including Piggy’s Farm, Snack and Quack, The Cute Whale, Axobubble and Slap the Rocks. The studio says Sony has also blocked it from publishing any future games for PS4 and PS5.
Afil Games has frequently been accused by players of producing “shovelware”: inexpensive, low-effort games primarily purchased by Trophy hunters because their Platinum Trophies can be unlocked quickly and easily.
Sony’s new guidelines clash with Afil Games’ business model
In a statement, Afil Games said PlayStation had been implementing stricter publishing guidelines since the beginning of 2026. According to the developer, these rules are incompatible with its existing business model.
“As a result of these new guidelines and their incompatibility with our business model, PlayStation has decided not to continue its partnership with Afil Games for future releases on the platform,” the studio said.
Afil Games added that its existing titles would be removed from the PlayStation Store “in the near future”, although it did not provide a specific removal date.
The announcement means players interested in purchasing any of the developer’s games, including those seeking their associated PlayStation Trophies, may have a limited amount of time to do so.
Afil Games will continue releasing titles on other platforms
While Afil Games will no longer publish games on PlayStation, the studio says it plans to continue supporting Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, the Microsoft Store and Nintendo Switch.
It also confirmed that several new projects remain in development, suggesting its publishing model will continue on platforms that have not introduced similar restrictions.
Sony has reportedly been taking steps to limit games designed primarily around easy Trophy completion, although the company has not publicly detailed the specific guidelines cited by Afil Games.
