No Man’s Sky will reach iPhone and iPad on 28 October, with a free trial before players buy the full game. According to Polygon’s interview with Hello Games founder Sean Murray, the port supports devices as old as the iPhone 11 and third-generation iPad Air, takes up less than 5GB, and draws on technology developed for Light No Fire.

The announced price is USD 19.99. UAE App Store pricing and availability have not been verified. Pre-orders opened alongside the announcement, but the mobile release is still more than two weeks away.

This is a port of the space exploration game, not a separate mobile spin-off. It includes content from the game’s decade of updates, including September’s Cosmos update, but it won’t have multiplayer or settlements at launch. Those exceptions are important for anyone expecting the same feature set as other versions.

An older iPhone, a smaller download

The listed minimum devices make this a different proposition from a port restricted to recent flagship phones. Polygon reports that Hello Games redesigned menus, built full touch controls, and also supports controllers. On iPad, players can use a mouse and keyboard.

The under-5GB download is another substantial part of the announcement: it keeps the installation relatively compact despite the game’s accumulated content. However, neither the file size nor the compatibility list shows how smoothly it will run on every supported device. The reports don’t provide measured frame rates or battery-life results.

GamesRadar’s account of Murray’s launch letter adds that the team worked on battery life and thermals, as well as rebuilding touch controls. The free trial should let prospective buyers assess the game on their device before paying, though these reports don’t explain its duration or limits.

How Light No Fire helped

Murray told Polygon that the mobile project began roughly three years ago. Keeping No Man’s Sky running on its original PlayStation 4 hardware had already pushed the studio to optimise the game, but work on Light No Fire also contributed performance and memory improvements.

Both games share an engine. Murray explained that improvements developed for the fantasy survival game could carry over to No Man’s Sky rather than remain isolated to a separate project. He also cited Voyagers as an example of technology moving between the two games. None of this establishes a release window for Light No Fire, which still has no announced date.

For players choosing between a phone and a dedicated handheld, controls and missing features remain useful distinctions. Tbreak’s September Nintendo Direct roundup and Switch 2 third-party lineup coverage provide broader context for Nintendo’s alternative, rather than evidence of how this iOS port performs.

Can you play No Man’s Sky with friends on iPhone at launch?

No. Multiplayer and settlements won’t be available at launch. Polygon reports that Murray left open the possibility of adding them depending on community feedback, but there is no confirmed timetable.

Will an existing purchase unlock the iPhone or iPad version?

The reports don’t establish whether purchases on other platforms transfer to iOS. Players should check the App Store purchase terms rather than assume an existing copy includes this version.
