Reynolds appeared in character during Marvel’s panel to promote Avengers: Doomsday and reveal the monochrome costume. He later shared what he claimed was its precise shade, adding that ‘once you see it, you can’t unsee it.’ Subtlety has never been one of Deadpool’s preferred superpowers.
The fictional colour is assigned the code 9-1963, a reference to September 1963, when Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s original The X-Men #1 was published. The source also checked Pantone’s catalogue and found no actual ‘Jean Grey’ shade, leaving the post firmly in joke territory.
The timing gives the gag extra bite. Speculation around Sink’s character has focused heavily on Jean Grey, so Reynolds is either enjoying the conversation or cheerfully throwing another log onto it. The available material offers no confirmation that he has revealed her role.

Sink has described the secrecy surrounding her character as ‘torture’ during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The film is expected to reveal Sink’s character when audiences finally see it. Official marketing has otherwise kept her largely obscured, preserving the mystery beyond interviews, trailers, and Reynolds’ latest attempt to make grey fabric the centre of Marvel discourse.
One planned Marvel return will not appear in the finished film. Rosario Dawson said at GalaxyCon that she filmed a scene as Claire Temple before it was cut, telling attendees: ‘I even shot a scene in the new Spider-Man movie, but I got cut out.’ IGN reported Dawson’s on-stage comments; Marvel has not separately announced the cameo.
For now, the ‘Jean Grey’ label remains a carefully timed Deadpool joke. Whether it doubles as a clue depends entirely on whom Sink is playing — the one detail everyone involved has become impressively good at dodging.
