Disney confirmed the live-action Tangled release date at D23: the film opens in theatres on 31 March 2028.

The date landed during the D23 Entertainment Showcase in Anaheim on 14 August, alongside the film’s first footage, per Variety. The clip, per Deadline, opened on Rapunzel’s hair sprawled across cobblestone stairs, lifted to the face of Teagan Croft, then cut to Kathryn Hahn stepping out as Mother Gothel with a pointed “Rapunzel!” The room, Deadline reported, screamed.

Hahn, whose casting fans had campaigned for, was in a good mood about it:

I love playing Mother Gothel. She’s stunning, hilarious, fab, kind, generous to a fault. Might be overprotective but that’s because she cares so much.

The date settles a question that has been open since the project was first reported in December 2024. Disney put the remake on hold in April 2025 after Snow White took just $145 million worldwide, then quietly revived it; filming began in Spain in June. The 2010 original grossed $592 million worldwide, per Variety, which is the kind of number that makes a studio come back for a second go.
