Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Will Not Release Until 2027 at the Earliest

Paramount Games Studio says Amy Hennig’s ambitious Marvel adventure remains in active development, although the team has been given additional time to reach its quality targets.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Will Not Release Until 2027 at the Earliest

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will not be released in 2026, with Paramount Games Studio confirming that the upcoming Marvel adventure is now targeting 2027 at the earliest.

The narrative-driven game from Skydance New Media was previously expected to arrive in early 2026 before being delayed beyond that initial window in November 2025. However, no updated release period was announced at the time, leaving some uncertainty around the project's status.

Speaking to IGN, Shawn Kittelsen, Senior Vice President and Head of Creative and Production at Paramount Games Studio, confirmed that the game remains in active development and is already playable. When asked about its release timing, however, he said: "I don't think it will be 2026."

Paramount Says Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Is Playable

Kittelsen attempted to reassure fans that the prolonged development cycle does not mean the project is in danger of being cancelled.

“It’s a game. It’s happening. It’s playable,” he said, adding that he currently has a build of the game available on his hard drive.

According to Kittelsen, Skydance New Media is working with a relatively small team compared to many other AAA productions, despite aiming for a similar level of visual quality and presentation. He also claimed that the footage previously shown publicly remains representative of how the game currently looks.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was first announced in 2021, with a cinematic trailer following in 2022. The project attracted considerably more attention in 2024 after Epic Games showcased an Unreal Engine 5.4 tech demo featuring its detailed character models, lighting and cinematic presentation.

The game features Captain America alongside Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s. Its wider cast includes Gabriel Jones from the Howling Commandos and Nanali, a Wakandan spy operating in Occupied Paris.

Skydance New Media Has Been Given More Time to Finish the Game

Kittelsen explained that the studio’s development challenges were partly linked to the circumstances surrounding its formation. Skydance New Media was established during the pandemic and had to build its internal team, production pipeline and tools while also working on its first major release.

Rather than rushing the game to meet an earlier deadline, Paramount has decided to give the studio additional time to complete the project.

The publisher appears particularly cautious about setting a firm release date before the game is ready, especially after its previous trailers set a high bar for the final product. If Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra does arrive in 2027, it will launch approximately six years after its initial announcement.

Amy Hennig’s Star Wars Game Is Taking a Back Seat for Now

Skydance New Media is also attached to an untitled Star Wars project, although it does not appear to be the studio’s immediate priority.

When asked whether the Star Wars game is still moving forward, Kittelsen said the focus is currently on finishing Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. He stopped short of confirming the long-term status of the Star Wars project, saying that Paramount will discuss it after Marvel 1943 is complete.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra does not currently have a confirmed release date. Based on Paramount’s latest comments, the earliest possible launch window is now sometime in 2027.
