Kit Connor is the reported choice, not a confirmed cast member
Kit Connor is reportedly being lined up to play Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops, in Marvel Studios’ new X-Men film. Deadline reports that the studio ultimately settled on Connor after a casting process involving meetings, auditions, and a small group of actors testing after the July 4 holiday.
The report says Marvel landed on Connor during the previous week, but Marvel Studios and the actor’s representatives could not be reached for comment. Until either party announces the news, Connor is the reported frontrunner rather than the formally confirmed next Cyclops.
That wording is worth keeping attached to the story, especially during a Marvel casting cycle where every meeting can generate three rumours, two fan posters, and one extremely confident social-media thread. The substantial update is that Connor has reportedly emerged from the testing process as the studio’s choice.
Cyclops gives Connor one of the team’s defining roles
Cyclops would place Connor at the centre of Marvel’s new X-Men team. Scott Summers first appeared in a 1963 issue of The X-Men by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and the character has traditionally served as the team’s captain while controlling powerful energy beams through his visor and specialised glasses.
James Marsden played Cyclops in three X-Men films during the 2000s, while Tye Sheridan took over the role for multiple films in the 2010s. Marsden is also confirmed to reprise the character in Avengers: Doomsday, which is due in December.
Connor is best known for Heartstopper and recently reprised his role in the film spinoff Heartstopper Forever. His other credits include Alex Garland’s Warfare, while Garland has also cast him in the upcoming Elden Ring adaptation.
It is a major step from Heartstopper to leading mutants while wearing eyewear that could demolish a wall, but Cyclops needs more than spectacle. He is the team member expected to project discipline, responsibility, and command even when the rest of the X-Men are busy turning every disagreement into an ideological crisis.
The X-Men reboot’s casting process is gathering pace
Connor’s reported selection follows news that Samara Weaving is in line to play Emma Frost, although that casting is also awaiting a public announcement. Together, the reports offer the clearest indication yet of which performers Marvel is considering for the new mutant roster.
The film gained momentum when Jake Schreier was selected to direct in May 2025. Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-creator Joanna Calo were subsequently hired to write the screenplay in April 2026.
Marvel gained access to the X-Men library following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019. The franchise previously produced seven mainline films under Fox, alongside three Wolverine spinoffs, leaving the new project with plenty of cinematic history to acknowledge and a fresh ensemble to establish.
For now, Connor appears to be the man Marvel wants behind the visor. The studio still needs to make it official before the X-Men’s famously serious field leader can start looking disapprovingly at whichever teammates eventually join him.
