Digger reviews have given Warner Bros. a marketing hook before the film’s 2 October opening. The studio’s new promo sets positive and negative reactions against each other, then has Tom Cruise’s oil tycoon Digger Rockwell answer the criticism with a line aimed at the people reviewing him. IGN reports on the spot.

Digger reviews: the early critical split
At publication, IGN reported a 52% Rotten Tomatoes score and 44/100 on Metacritic; its review gave the film 6/10. Entertainment Weekly reported 53% on Rotten Tomatoes, a one-point difference that reflects how a live score can shift as reviews arrive. These are snapshots from the review-embargo period, not a final audience verdict.
Rotten Tomatoes says its Tomatometer is the percentage of professional critic reviews that are positive, rather than an average rating. So Digger reviews on the site show the share of positive verdicts, not how strongly each critic liked the film. Rotten Tomatoes explains the measure here.
Warner Bros. puts the split in the advert
The promo flashes opposing reactions such as “unpleasant” and “masterpiece”, “baffling” and “brilliant”, and “insufferable” and “magnificent”. Variety reports that the campaign tells viewers to “Decide for yourself” after putting both sides of the response on screen.
The contrast is the pitch: Warner Bros. does not hide the criticism or pretend the response is unanimous. Digger reviews have supplied the advert with its structure, turning disagreement into part of the film’s promotion before most audiences have seen it.
When does Digger open?
The official Digger site says its international rollout begins on 30 September, with a North American release on 2 October. Tbreak’s earlier Digger coverage lists the UAE cinema date as 2 October. The new promo arrives as that release window starts, putting the debate about the film in front of audiences before opening weekend.
Why is Digger’s 52% Rotten Tomatoes score labelled “Rotten”?
Rotten Tomatoes labels films with fewer than 60% positive critic reviews “Rotten”; the “Fresh” label starts at 60%.
Is Digger’s Tomatometer the same as its audience score?
No. The Tomatometer summarises professional critics’ positive reviews, while the Popcornmeter reflects audience ratings. The two can differ, so a critic score alone does not show how ticket buyers respond.
