Capcom created an internal group nicknamed the "Diana Police" during the development of Pragmata, tasking its members with ensuring that the game's young android companion remained likeable without becoming excessively cute or irritating.
The unusual development detail was shared during a Japanese Father's Day event celebrating Pragmata's commercial success, followed by an interview with producer Naoto Oyama and direct Cho Yonghee. According to the developers, the group repeatedly reviewed Diana's personality and presentation as the character evolved during production.
The ‘Diana Police’ Was Reportedly Made Up Entirely of Women
Yonghee said the Diana Police appeared to consist entirely of women working on the game. He explained that female staff members were more likely to notice when the portrayal of a female character felt overly calculated or deliberately cutesy, including details that male developers might not immediately recognise.
The group therefore acted as an additional editorial check, helping Capcom maintain the balanced between Diana's childlike qualities, her android nature and the more emotional parts of her relationship with protagonist Hugh Williams.
Oyama explained that defining a character during development can be difficult because their personality is still changing. While players eventually develop a shared understanding of who a completed character us, developers must continually identify and correct moments that drift away from the intended characterisation.
Rather than relying on one fixed description of Diana, the wider development team repeatedly adjusted her writing and performance until the different elements felt consistent.
Diana’s Voice Was Kept Natural Rather Than Exaggerated
Diana's Japanese voice, Nao Toyama, also discussed the direction she received while recording the character. She was instructed not to make Diana sound excessively cute, instead approaching the performance as naturally as possible, like a child speaking normally.
Oyama said the Diana Police monitored this balance throughout development, checking that Diana did not become overly adorable to the point of feeling forced, while also ensuring that her behavior did not become annoying to players.
That balance was particularly important because Diana is not simply a supporting character. Pragmata's story and combat system are built around the partnership between her and Hugh, with Diana handling real-time hacking while Hugh fights hostile machines inside a lunar research station.
Diana Became Central to Pragmata’s Success
Capcom has credited Pragmata's characters and emotional storytelling as significant factors in the game's early reception. The company announced that the new IP sold more than two million copies worldwide within 16 days of its April 2026 launch.
Capcom said the developing bond between Hugh and Diana, alongside the game's combination of action and puzzle-based hacking, helped attract players to the new science-fiction property.
Pragamta is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
