Blizzard has announced Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026, with the next mainline action RPG due in Spring 2029. The sequel will take place a century after Diablo 4 and will be set entirely in a post-apocalyptic version of Sanctuary, according to IGN’s report from the event.

Diablo 5 release date is set for Spring 2029

The Diablo 5 release date window is Spring 2029. That puts the game six years after Diablo 4, which launched in 2023, and more than three decades after the original Diablo arrived in 1996.

The announcement came during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony, where Blizzard showed a short teaser featuring the return of Diablo, the series’ Lord of Terror. The new game will move the story forward by 100 years, rather than continuing directly from the events of Diablo 4.

The post-apocalyptic setting is the clearest detail about the sequel so far. Blizzard has not announced its platforms, pricing or pre-order details.

What happens to Diablo 4?

Blizzard is still supporting Diablo 4 while work on the sequel moves ahead. The company previously said the game would be around for years, with annual expansions planned, as reported by GameSpot.

BlizzCon also brought news of a new Amazon class pack for Diablo 4 in 2027, a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the Diablo 4 Collection and a playable look back at the franchise through Season 15.

The two games will therefore run alongside each other for some time. Blizzard has not said whether progress, characters or other content will carry over from Diablo 4 to Diablo 5.
