Roblox is expanding its AI game-creation tools and plans to let creators release games as standalone apps on mobile, PC and consoles, taking its engine beyond the main Roblox platform. The company announced the changes at its Roblox Developer Conference (RDC), alongside new tools for NPCs, 2D games and creator payments.

Roblox AI game creation gets a wider rollout

Roblox’s Build feature lets users create games from natural-language prompts. First announced in July and initially made available in New Zealand, the feature is expanding to Serbia and Singapore. It is also gaining desktop access, a new asset library and more control over iterative changes.

A prompt-based scene-generation feature is planned for later this year and will extend to Roblox Studio. Roblox is also adding NPCs that can playtest games, while its engine now supports 2D projects with an orthographic camera, animated image containers and direct sprite-sheet imports.

Roblox games will move beyond the main app

Creators will be able to make their games available as separate apps on mobile, PC and consoles, with Roblox providing the underlying engine. Players will also be able to join games in a browser through a link by the end of the year. The company has not given a date for standalone app publishing.

The change gives Roblox-built games a route to players who may never open Roblox itself. It also puts more pressure on creators to win discovery outside the platform, where app stores and the wider web have their own rules.

Roblox said game makers have earned more than $5 billion on the platform since 2013, including $1.7 billion in the last 12 months. Players spent more than 29 billion hours on Roblox in the last quarter across 180 countries, according to CEO David Baszucki.

The company is also introducing a Roblox Wallet that will let creators receive real-money payments by the end of each business day and transfer funds to other bank accounts. Airwallex is providing wallet services in the US.

Roblox is available in the UAE, but the announcements did not include a UAE-specific rollout date for Build or standalone publishing. The Roblox AI game creation rollout is not yet confirmed for the UAE.
