The Qatar Central Bank announced on 30 August that Qatar’s Himyan Samsung Wallet integration is now live, allowing eligible cardholders to make contactless payments through compatible Galaxy smartphones and smartwatches.

The partnership with Samsung Gulf Electronics covers eligible Himyan debit and prepaid cards. Qatar Tribune reports that users can add their cards in Samsung Wallet and verify them through the issuing bank.

Samsung Wallet users in Qatar can then pay at compatible points of sale without carrying the physical card. The development follows other Gulf moves towards mobile payments, including [open banking work in the UAE](https://tbreak.com/cbd-open-finance-uae-mobile-app-payments/). The Himyan scheme was developed as Qatar’s first national payment card brand, with a focus on locally managed digital transactions.

Himyan Samsung Wallet: how to add a card

To add an eligible Himyan card, open Samsung Wallet on a supported Galaxy device, choose Add Card and complete the verification process through the card-issuing bank. The same process applies to compatible Galaxy smartphones and smartwatches, although device and bank support can vary.

Qatar Central Bank said the integration supports the country’s digital-payment plans, while Samsung pointed to Samsung Knox security and biometric authentication such as a fingerprint or PIN. The The Peninsula report carried the announcement from QNA, including statements from the Qatar Central Bank and Samsung Gulf Electronics.

The announcement concerns eligible cardholders in Qatar. It does not confirm that Himyan cards will work for UAE-issued cards, or that the scheme has gained cross-border acceptance in the UAE. Travellers should check with Qatar Central Bank or their card issuer before relying on the card outside Qatar.

SamMobile adds that the card-addition process follows the usual Samsung Wallet flow: select the option to add a new card, then complete verification through the issuing bank. The Himyan Samsung Wallet integration therefore removes the need to carry an eligible physical card for supported payments in Qatar, but does not change the scheme’s stated domestic scope.
