Gal Gadot says James Gunn and Peter Safran told her that Wonder Woman 3 would be developed with her before the project was abandoned during DC’s wider reboot.
Wonder Woman 3 was never clearly cancelled, Gadot says
Gadot revisited the project’s confused history in an interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, as reported by IGN. Asked whether Gunn, Safran or anyone at DC Studios had told her they were moving on from her version of Diana Prince, she said they had told her the opposite.
“No, they told me the opposite,” Gadot said. “They were like, ‘We’re going to develop it with you, [Wonder Woman 3],’ but I saw the way everybody else was handled, right?”
She was referring to the exits of Henry Cavill and Patty Jenkins during the changeover from the previous DC film universe to the new DCU. Gadot said those situations were “not handled elegantly”, but added that she had no personal issue with Gunn, Safran or the wider DC Studios team.
Why Wonder Woman 3 fell apart
The project had already been caught in competing reports before this latest interview. In December 2022, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Warner Bros. was not moving forward with Jenkins’ treatment for Wonder Woman 3. Jenkins later said she had not walked away from the film.
Variety subsequently reported that Wonder Woman 3 was not in development and that DC Studios had no plans at that point for a Gadot-led Wonder Woman project. The report said the only announced Wonder Woman-related project was Paradise Lost, a prequel series set on Themyscira before Diana’s birth.
Gadot has now said she would probably not return to the role even if asked. She pointed to family commitments, including caring for her four children, as a reason another long production would not fit her life at this stage.
For now, the next Wonder Woman project remains unclear. DC Studios has announced Paradise Lost, but a new live-action film has not been given a release date. Tbreak’s earlier DC Studios coverage has followed the wider reset and its effect on the studio’s slate.
The original Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 remain the two completed solo films starring Gadot. A third film exists mainly as a story about a reboot that kept changing its mind until there was no film left to change.
