Anne Hathaway will star opposite Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder 2, and Paramount has set a release date of 2 June 2028.
Cruise announced Hathaway’s casting on Saturday with a teaser image of the pair at a NASCAR track, followed by a video in which Hathaway, who is pregnant, said she would deliver her baby first and then they would go make the movie, as IGN reports.
Days of Thunder 2 release date and formats
The sequel lands on 2 June 2028, shot for IMAX and playing on premium large formats including IMAX, 4DX and Dolby Cinema, per Paramount’s announcement. That is 38 years after Tony Scott’s 1990 original, which paired Cruise with the Top Gun director and also starred Robert Duvall and Nicole Kidman.
Cruise returns as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle, with Hathaway as a team owner and engineer. Jonathan Levine directs from a script by Will Staples, and Cruise produces alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper.

Who is making Days of Thunder 2
Levine’s credits include Long Shot, Warm Bodies and the fact-based sports drama Mr. Irrelevant, starring David Corenswet. His name had already been circling the sequel before today’s announcement.
Hathaway has had a busy year in cinemas: The End of Oak Street, Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2 and The Odyssey, which is still showing in the UAE. Cruise’s next release is Digger, set for UAE cinemas this October.
The follow-up is the first franchise IP Cruise has committed to as he winds down Mission: Impossible, with another Top Gun film also on the way.
