Ganondorf May Have Been Found: Uli Latukefu Is Reportedly Joining The Legend of Zelda Movie

Deadline reports that Uli Latukefu will play Ganondorf in Sony and Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, due in theatres on May 7, 2027.

Latukefu is reportedly the film’s Ganondorf

Deadline reports that Uli Latukefu has been cast as Ganondorf, the lead villain in Sony and Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda movie.

The outlet says sources confirmed the casting and added that Latukefu signed a multi-picture deal. Sony did not comment on the report, while The New York Times’ Kyle Buchanan was the first to report Latukefu’s involvement.

Ganondorf is described as a powerful warlock king determined to dominate Hyrule, the kingdom defended by Link and Princess Zelda. That gives Latukefu the job of looking threatening opposite two of gaming’s most recognisable heroes — which feels like a reasonable promotion after playing a young Dwayne Johnson.

The actor is best known for Young Rock, which ran for three seasons on NBC. His other credits include Black Adam, Next Goal Wins, MaXXXine, and the Prime Video series Countdown.

The core trio is taking shape

Latukefu would join Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link in the central cast.

Nintendo announced Bragason and Ainsworth as the leads in July 2025. Deadline describes Latukefu as the first new casting to emerge since then, after details surrounding the wider ensemble were kept closely guarded. Hyrule’s casting fog is finally beginning to clear, and the first figure stepping through it is exactly the towering menace fans expected to see somewhere in this film.

Wes Ball is directing the adaptation, with Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad producing. T.S. Nowlin wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay. Sony first announced in autumn 2023 that it would distribute the movie and co-finance it with Nintendo.

The film is scheduled for May 7, 2027

The Legend of Zelda is currently scheduled for theatrical release on May 7, 2027.

The live-action film adapts a Nintendo series that debuted in 1986 and has sold more than 150 million units across consoles. Its stories generally follow Link and Princess Zelda as they fight to protect Hyrule from Ganon, the demonic form associated with Ganondorf.

The central pieces are now visible: Bragason has the title role, Ainsworth carries Link’s heroic burden, and Latukefu is reportedly preparing to make their trip through Hyrule considerably less pleasant. Until Sony or Nintendo publicly addresses the casting, Latukefu’s role remains a report attributed to industry sources rather than a studio announcement.
