Lanterns Season 2 is in early development, but HBO has not officially renewed the DC series. Co-creator Damon Lindelof told Collider that writers are already developing ideas for a possible second run, a status IGN also reported.

DC describes the series as following new recruit John Stewart and veteran Hal Jordan as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. Its first season has now ended.

Lanterns Season 2 is still at the idea stage

Lindelof said he does not know what the next story would be and does not want to limit the writers who are working on it. He also said he will not return for a second season, so no plot details or returning cast beyond the existing reports have been confirmed.

“I do not know anything about the creative, and I wouldn’t want to hamstring those writers in any way for what future storytelling mechanisms they could indulge in.”

There is creative work on a potential continuation, but no HBO order, release date or announced Season 2 story.

Lanterns Season 2 planning began before the finale

Before the season ended, The Hollywood Reporter reported that showrunner Chris Mundy and Christopher Cantwell had spent about six weeks laying out a possible second-season story. They were still breaking the story, not writing scripts, and would need to pitch it to HBO.

Before the finale, we reported that Lanterns was averaging nearly 19 million viewers per episode globally at that point in its run. For UAE launch details, see our Lanterns viewing guide.

Has Lanterns Season 2 started production?

The available reports describe story development, not a production start. The Hollywood Reporter said Chris Mundy and Christopher Cantwell were breaking the story and had not yet written scripts when it interviewed Mundy.

Is John Stewart confirmed for another DC project?

Yes. Aaron Pierre is set to return as John Stewart in Man of Tomorrow, which DC lists for 9 July 2027. That film is separate from any Lanterns renewal.
