Chris Carter knows The X-Files isn’t finished. At least, the story isn’t. The creator of the alien-conspiracy thriller told IGN he has a “big reveal” planned for the storyline his divisive Season 11 finale left open — nothing is greenlit, and he is happy to wait while Ryan Coogler’s Hulu reboot takes its turn.

The finale, My Struggle IV, aired on 21 March 2018 and ended on a reveal that was clearly meant to lead somewhere: Scully pregnant again. Carter says the four My Struggle episodes he wrote were all setup for where he imagined the series would go.
“There were four episodes that I worked on, they were called My Struggle I, My Struggle II, III, and IV. And they were all a setup for where I imagined the series would go. I have a big reveal for everyone, and I’m excited to do that if we ever have another chance.”

What happens to the X-Files reboot
The “if” is doing real work. Coogler, of Black Panther and Sinners, has filmed a pilot for an X-Files reboot at Hulu — the project tbreak has been following since the Buscemi casting news, with David Duchovny still unsure whether Mulder returns. Carter says he will not get in its way.
“Ryan Coogler is doing his version of The X-Files, and I don’t want to do anything to spoil that, get in the way of that, affect that. So we’ll give him that respect and that space that he deserves. But I do have something… I do have another story or a series or a movie in where I want to explore that storyline that I’ve set up so carefully.”

A director’s cut, retitled in Russian
The interview accompanies the release of The X-Files: I Want to Believe — Vrach Frankenshteyn, Carter’s director’s cut of the 2008 film, which premieres on Disney+ and Hulu today — almost 20 years after the studio made him cut the original to a PG-13 running time. Executives called the first version “torture porn”; the ratings board then cut it further.
The new cut restores the horror, trims the Mulder-and-Scully romance (“people got a lot of that in the two reboots”), and leans into the Frankenstein story that gives the film its new title: Vrach Frankenshteyn is Russian for Doctor Frankenstein.
The idea, Carter says, came from a real surgeon who transplanted a monkey’s head onto another monkey. The surgery was a success; the monkey died. That, he decided, was X-Files territory.
The director’s cut streams today on Disney+ and Hulu. Disney+ is live in the UAE, so the film lands here on launch day; Hulu is US-only. The original series remains on Disney+.
