Amazon MGM Studios’ Tomb Raider series breached UK health and safety law during production, after the company behind the show failed to ensure biological monitoring for crew working with isocyanate paints. The Health and Safety Executive issued an improvement notice in April, and records show the production complied within a month. Deadline reported the ruling, while the HSE notice records the breach and compliance.
Tomb Raider safety laws breach involved paint spraying
The notice was served on Project Temple Productions Ltd, the production company for the Sophie Turner-led series, on 27 April 2026. It says the company failed to ensure that people working under its control had undergone biological monitoring to check whether controls for spraying isocyanate paints were effective.
Isocyanates can cause occupational asthma. HSE guidance says workers spraying the paints should use suitable personal protective equipment, and that the invisible mist can take up to 20 minutes to clear. The employer must know the clearance time for the space being used.
The HSE classified the action as an improvement notice rather than a prosecution or fine. Its public record lists the result as “Complied with”. Deadline reported that Project Temple had remedied the breach within a month.
Sophie Turner’s injury paused production
The safety ruling follows a separate production disruption earlier in 2026. Turner suffered a minor injury on set, and filming paused for about two weeks while she recovered, according to Deadline. IGN reported that Turner was understood to have suffered a back injury and that the cast and crew were paid during the hiatus.
The two incidents are separate. The HSE notice concerns controls around isocyanate paint spraying; it does not identify Turner’s injury as the reason for the regulatory action. Amazon MGM Studios declined to comment to Deadline. The series began production in January at Shinfield Studios and is being made for Prime Video with Crystal Dynamics. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge.
Tomb Raider has no confirmed Prime Video release date. The cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie and Bill Paterson alongside Turner.
