Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil is now available to buy or rent digitally, just over 45 days after it opened in cinemas. IGN reports a purchase price of $24.99, and the film has passed $400 million at the global box office on its way out of theatres.
Yahoo reports the premium on-demand release went live on 3 November on services including Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Fandango At Home. Those are US-facing storefronts, and we haven’t seen confirmation of which stores carry the film in the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Egypt, or at what price. Check your local Prime Video or Apple TV page before assuming it’s there.
Physical editions are next, though the details don’t line up yet. IGN says the film is up for preorder on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K, with no DVD date. SlashFilm puts the disc release at 29 December and lists bonus features including “Game Changer: Directing Resident Evil” and an audio commentary from Cregger. If you were hoping for a longer cut on disc, Cregger has already said there won’t be an extended version.

A hit that took some convincing
The digital launch follows a run that began with the franchise’s biggest opening at $108.3 million worldwide. IGN says it is now the highest-grossing video game movie, and if it adds roughly $30 million, it could join the top 10 highest-grossing horror films of all time. We tracked the climb from $360 million to the point where Cregger said he was frustrated by the debate around the film.
That debate started with fans who wanted a direct adaptation featuring characters such as Leon Kennedy, while Cregger set out to capture the “feeling of playing Resident Evil” across the games. IGN says early fan reactions made him feel he was on an “apology tour”. IGN’s reviewer Tom Jorgensen urged sceptical fans to set aside their expectations of a good Resident Evil movie, and called Austin Abrams’ central performance strong.
The film also moved games. IGN says Resident Evil 2 Remake sales on PS5 rose more than 50% in the week the film opened. That fits a strong year for Capcom, which also released Resident Evil Requiem and, more recently, Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
What comes next
Cregger first said this would be his only Resident Evil film, but IGN says he has since said he’d be willing to “have a hand” in future sequels. We’ve covered his sequel ideas, though nothing is official. IGN adds that one of the film’s producers is already turning to a Silent Hill movie, and that Cregger will produce a Siren Head adaptation.
If you’d rather not pay, Yahoo estimates a Netflix debut around mid-to-late January 2027, based on the Sony-Netflix output deal and Sony’s past release patterns. No date has been announced.
How much does Resident Evil cost to buy digitally?
IGN lists the digital purchase price at $24.99. Rental pricing hasn’t been confirmed in the sources we’ve seen, and we haven’t verified any AED price in the UAE.
When is the Resident Evil Blu-ray out?
SlashFilm reports a 29 December release for DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD, while IGN says the DVD still has no date. Sony hasn’t confirmed the date in the sources we’ve seen.
Will Resident Evil stream on Netflix?
Not yet. Yahoo estimates a debut around late January 2027 because of Sony’s deal with the service, and no date has been announced.
